David Hochoy, who has long been at the forefront of Indianapolis' modern dance scene, has decided to retire. He'll step down in 2023, after 32 years as artistic director of Dance Kaleidoscope and at the end of its 50th anniversary season, the company announced Thursday.

The new artistic director will take over the city's oldest professional modern dance company, which Hochoy had a large part in building into a cultural powerhouse. He joined Dance Kaleidoscope in 1991 and conducted his first rehearsals in what was the St. Mary's School gym at 429 E. Vermont St.Dance Kaleidoscope's 2022-23 season will include Beatles songs, 'Carmina Burana'

Hochoy served as a founder and co-artistic director of Spotlight, which is a performing arts fundraiser for the Indiana AIDS Fund. And in 2020, Dance Kaleidoscopenear Massachusetts Avenue and 10th Street.
