The Guardians juggle the roster, while trying to protect the bullpen.

Catcher David Fry won't be playing in the field for the near future because of a sore right elbow.BALTIMORE -- The Guardians waited a long time to post Monday’s lineup because they didn’t know if utility man David Fry would be able to play. Fry left Sunday’s 6-5 win over Toronto after two innings with a sore right elbow.

The Guardians recalled right-hander Xzavion Curry to protect the bullpen after Triston McKenzie went just three innings in Sunday’s game before it was delayed for 40 minutes by rain. Right-hander Darren McCaughan, who pitched two innings Sunday, was optioned to Columbus to make room. “I wouldn’t say it’s common, but it’s not surprising that his arm has flared up on him a little bit,” said Vogt. “He’s a tough kid and he’s done everything we’ve asked of him.”

Curry has made three starts for the Guardians this season, going 0-1 with a 5.68 ERA. In 11 games, including 10 starts at Class AAA Columbus, he’s 1-6 with a 6.34 ERA.
