Gunn's Superman movie is finally getting closer to hitting theaters as principal photography began on the new reboot in late February.
Superman is set to be the first DC Universe movie in the Chapter 1, "Gods and Monsters" slate, helping establish a tone for the new franchise. To celebrate the start of filming, Gunn teased the new Superman costume in honor of the character's canonical birthday. It didn't take long for several talented fan artists to bring Corenswet's Superman costume to life as numerous artwork have emerged, imagining what the rest of the suit will look like in the movie. Art of Time Travel shared their version of Corenswet's Superman costume in the form of a theatrical movie poster with the actor doing the infamous shirt rip. Jobhutz did not one, but four designs of Corenswet's Superman uniform, both imagined with and without the trunks, while also using some inspiration from The New 52 and DC Rebirth costumes. Bosslogic expanded the S-shield by making the logo bigger on the costume, while also pitching the rest of the body suit with what appears to be traditional spandex. Arifinity and Zippexe did a collaboration of the Superman costume where Corenswet gets imagined once again with the trunks. Felipe Illa shared a version of Corenswet's Superman costume that has an armor aesthetic to it, with some similarities to Henry Cavill's Superman suit in the DCEU movie timeline. Horrific Heroics had a design shared where they added a bit more gold to Corenswet's Superman suit, including on the top of the boots and wrists. AGT Design pitched Corenswet in his costume, creating an iteration that highlighted the texture on the body suit more than in Gunn's original Superman tease. That particular House of El symbol came out of the infamous Mark Waid and Alex Ross storyline, and has remained a huge favored version in the DC audience for years. To this point, it has only been adapted once in live-action for the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover in the Arrowverse, where Brandon Routh's Superman donned a version of the costume. Even though Gunn has shared Kingdom Come-related teases across his social media ever since he got appointed the role of DC Studios co-CEO, there is no definitive indication that storyline is what is going to drive the new Superman movie. Using that version of the S-shield could simply reflect an intention to change things up as Gunn's DC Universe gets built up from the ground. However, there certainly could also be elements from Kingdom Come that drive the Superman film, particularly in how Clark deals with a new rising generation of superheroes. Time will tell when Gunn reveals a full shot of Corenswet's Superman movie costume. It wouldn't be shocking if the DCU costume is finally officially revealed once the team gets ready to shoot on location with Corenswet in the suit. But for now, the DC Universe audience will have to wait patiently to see more from Gunn's Superman film.
