In his first major speech as Foreign Secretary, Lord Cameron will call on Britain and its allies to 'out-compete, out-cooperate and out-innovate' their adversaries in an ongoing 'battle of wills'
Lord Cameron lays out six points that will help - in his view - the UK 'rise to the challenges we face'. 'First, we need to make security our top priority,' he says, referencing 'attacks on our democracy from China' and a 'suspected sabotage attack on a warehouse in East London just last week'.
The national interest defines our foreign policy, but some try to portray this as somehow unprincipled, as if by putting the national interest first we will sacrifice important values. 'I think that couldn't be further from the truth. It is profoundly in our national interest to defend those core values: freedom, rule of law, respect for human rights. 'These principles are not simply abstractions they are vital foundations for British global security and prosperity.
