In response to Benjamin Pogrund calling Israel an apartheid state akin to South Africa's pre-democracy, David Benjamin argues Pogrund's apartheid talk is misplaced.

The book included strident criticism of Israeli policies in the West Bank and with regards to the Palestinians.

So far, it has only legislated an end to the reasonableness standard of judicial review, but the Supreme Court itself might still strike this law down. While deeply troubling, I believe this is not apartheid. However, under current Israeli law and judicial precedent, all citizens enjoy equality under the law with recourse to the courts to enforce equal treatment.

He further argues the coalition has"threatened" to withdraw funding meant for the Arab sector. This hasn't happened yet and has had significant pushback even within the current coalition.Pogrund is also mistaken when he says,"Israel can no longer claim security as the reason for our behaviour in the West Bank and the Siege of Gaza".

Israel has made repeated and far-reaching offers to the Palestinian leadership to resolve the conflict. All have been rejected. Any failure of Israeli authorities to protect Palestinian civilians from violence and vandalism by Israeli extremists is inexcusable.
