We chat with TheStoriedLifeofAJFikry stars DavidArquette & Christina Hendricks about working on their book-loving characters' relationship in the new film:
The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry presents an unlikely pairing in David Arquette's Officer Lambiase and Christina Hendricks' Ismay, who are brought together by their love for books. Lambiase's stature as Alice Island's police chief and Ismay's tragic past form their unique individual stories, which meld into the film's larger narrative about A.J. Fikry's life and the bookstore he owns.
Screen Rant interviewed Arquette and Hendricks about how they approached their roles in The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry and how they built their on-screen relationship. Christina Hendricks: I oftentimes if I'm working on something that was inspired by a novel or came from a novel, I don't read them at the same time because if there's something that's not in the script that was in the book, sometimes you forget the storytelling that we narrow down in the script, and I don't want to confuse the two. I generally wait until after to read it.
We see Ismay’s loneliness strongly impact the actions she takes in the film. Christina, what’s your perspective on her journey? David Arquette: I think the bookstore's so important to the community in general, the whole family. Lambiase has a line,"A town isn't a town if there's no books to it," and that sort of sums it up.
