Actor David Alan Grier expresses his support for Sinbad after his stroke and celebrates his return to the stage.
Actor David Alan Grier has been a constant supporter of Sinbad during his recovery from an ischemic stroke in 2020. Grier spoke to Entertainment Tonight about the importance of supporting family and how pleased he is to have Sinbad back on stage. Grier explained, 'It's so important to me, as a man, that men want to support and take care of their families. I know it's been really difficult for him, so to give him this opportunity made me feel amazing. I'm really excited for him.
And he delivered.' Sinbad's family shared in October 2020 that he suffered a stroke due to a blood clot traveling from his heart to his brain. They expressed hope that he would soon bring laughter back into their lives. Sinbad has been diligently working on his recovery through physical therapy, and his family has documented his progress on social media. His journey back to performing has included a tribute show in March 2023 that brought together his former 'A Different World' castmates to raise funds for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The event showcased the comedic talents of other renowned entertainers like Deon Cole, D.L. Hughley, Byron Allen, and Mark Curry, benefiting the Sinbad Special Needs Trust.
