The car giant said it was restructuring
Around 300 jobs at the Ford's distribution centre in West Northamptonshire will not be at risk despite the car maker announcing it is cutting one fifth of its UK workforce. Ford announced this morning, , that it plans to axe 1,300 jobs in the UK over the next three years as part of a huge restructuring programme.
its European workforce to create "a leaner, more competitive cost structure". Inflation, higher interest rates, the war in Ukraine, and the cost of energy have all lead to increased costs in Ford's European operations. The plans announced today are hoped to enable Ford to profitably compete with a new line-up of vehicles. The move to electric vehicles, which Ford plans to do by 2030, is also a contributing factor to the job losses.
Around 300 jobs will also be lost from administrative, marketing, sales and distribution centres. But a spokesperson told Northants Live: "Daventry is a parts and components storage and distribution centre. Those parts and components will be equally required for our future electric vehicle range."
