Dave Bautista confirms that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is his final Marvel Cinematic Universe movie and appearance as Drax the Destroyer. The MCU gave the former wrestler his breakout acting role back in 2014 with the release of the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Dave Bautista has gone on to return as Drax in two sequels, two Avengers movies, Thor: Love and Thunder, and the recent holiday special on Disney+.

What Drax's MCU Future Looks Like After Guardians of the Galaxy 3 Dave Bautista has made it known for the last year or so that Drax's MCU future after Guardians of the Galaxy 3 might not include him. The actor suggested that Marvel Studios could recast the role, although James Gunn has come out to oppose that idea. Bautista's comments have teased that Drax might survive Guardians of the Galaxy 3 after all.
If Dave Bautista is done playing Drax after Guardians of the Galaxy 3, that will make the movie's ending for the character all the more fascinating. Many theories suggest that James Gunn's movie will end with a tease of the MCU's next Guardians of the Galaxy team. Drax cannot be positioned to carry on in that fashion if Bautista has no interest in returning unless a recast is coming.
There is always the chance that Dave Bautista will return as Drax after Guardians of the Galaxy 3, though. He could be more than ready to walk away from the role right now, but Marvel Studios might be able to lure him back in the future for the right opportunity. Avengers: Secret Wars is looming for the MCU and is the most likely spot for Dave Bautista's Drax to return one final time.
