Davao Oriental renames welcome park in honor of Malanyaon

DAVAO CITY – The provincial government renamed on August 22, Tuesday, the welcome park at the border of Davao Oriental in Banaybanay to Gov. Corazon Nuñez-Malanyaon Welcome Park.

According to the Davao Oriental provincial government, renaming the welcome park is a tribute to the former governor who would have turned 74 on August 22.

Malanyaon passed away on June 28 at the age of 73. Cause of death was not revealed and Malanyaon was laid to rest at the Davao Memorial Park here on July 7. Her political journey commenced with her appointment as office-in-charge councilor of Davao City from 1986 to 1987. Born on August 22, 1949 and a Certified Public Accountant and lawyer, Malanyaon grew up in Cateel before pursuing her higher education at Ateneo de Davao University.
