The main building of the Nabisco plant in Fair Lawn will be demolished sometime in April

The familiar tower at the Nabisco plant on Route 208 will come down once and for all on April 15, the borough of Glen Rock announced Friday.about the long-awaited implosion on its website and advised residents to stay tuned for further details.

No other details were immediately available, but the borough says it will post the minutes of the construction meeting to the FAQ on Saturday., ending a 60-year run. The plant, which opened in 1958, produced such favorites as Oreos, Lorna Doones, and Teddy Grahams. Nabisco’s parent company, Mondelez International, sold the property to Greek Development, an East Brunswick company, for $146.5 million. Greek Development is knocking down the plant to make way for redevelopment, although it has not yet proposed a specific plan for the property.

Greek said the hour was chosen because most people are presumed to be awake at the time, but there isn’t that much traffic on the roads. For safety reasons, residents will be advised not to come down to the property to watch the tower fall.Greek Development has contracted with Controlled Demolition, Inc. and Sessler Wrecking, Inc. to take down the buildings.
