Houston out-shot the visitors 20-6, had a 5-3 edge in shots on goal, and held an advantage in blocks, 8-2.Midfielder Lo’eau LaBonta converted a penalty kick in the fifth minute to the bottom-right corner past Jane Campbell for her eighth goal. The penalty was conceded by Katie Naughton after pushing Kristen Hamilton from behind in the penalty area.
Houston leveled the score on a left-footed blast from Sophie Schmidt in the 21st minute off a corner from María Sanchez. Goalkeeper Adrianna Franch batted away Sanchez’s attempt to an awaiting Schmidt, whose rocket found the bottom-right corner of the net. In the second half the Dash were the more aggressive team, coming close to scoring on several attempts. In stoppage time, Michelle Alozie’s right-footed shot from the center of the box was saved by Franch.
Other opportunities came in the 55th, 58th and 59th minutes, starting with Sanchez hitting the left post with a left-footed shot from the left side of the box, assisted by Ebony Salmon.
