DART's Committee-of-the-Whole voted to implement a new policy aimed at curbing passenger behaviors that burden the GoLink system, including frequent cancellations, no-shows, and excessive trips. The policy, if approved next month, would limit cancellations, impose temporary suspensions for no-shows, and restrict the number of trips per day for frequent users.
A sign advertising DART 's GoLink service is pictured at the drop-off at the Parker Road transit station in Plano. could be subject to new rules beginning next April, as officials move to crack down on incidents that are burdening the system.
Those include frequent cancelations and no-shows, as well as “excessive” trips. GoLink cancelations incur more than $50,000 in costs monthly, with about 8% of customers generating half of all cancelations.. But data tracked by third-party operators and DART employees show a small subset of repeat offenders that cost the system money.
In zones that are included in the zone-to-zone service pilot, a trip from one zone to another would be considered one trip. For other areas that require a transfer not part of zone-to-zone, each segment counts as one trip, while a ride from one zone to another counts as two, according to DART. The policy will go before DART’s Board of Directors in February and, if approved, will be rolled out in stages between April and June.
