People ride the DART bus route 16 on Monday, Jan. 24, 2022, in Downtown Dallas, TX.After recovering from an operator shortage that resulted in reduced service hours last June, DART says it has returned to regular service hours as of Monday, Jan. 23.

It has hired 223 operators since June by increasing pay, hosting job fairs, and offering bonuses to attract more applicants. “The result was that the service was not as reliable as we wanted it to be,” Smith said. “There were gaps where customers were waiting for buses and issues like that. And so by slowing down, we were able to fill those gaps.

“This was based on feedback that we heard after we rolled out DART Zoom,” Smith said. “The hours for our GoLink service ended at 8 p.m., and it did not run on weekends in most of the zones. And we heard a lot of feedback about that.”
