Babcock saga, Lynch trial reveal the sport still has serious problems
Right now a former hockey coach, Bernie Lynch, is on trial
Calgary Flames head coach Bill Peters resigned amid reports of racist and abusive treatment of his former players. After Babcock was fired by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2019, players told horrible stories of how he bullied and mistreated them. Graham James was imprisoned for molesting players when he coached the WHL’s Swift Current Broncos in the 1980s, with the survivors afterwards saying others knew about it, but did nothing.Columbus needed to win.
Peters and Babcock insisted they had undergone specialized training, learned the error of their ways and vowed to be better.
