Dark Horse Comics has announced the launch of a new Marvel Black and White line, beginning with an oversized hardcover edition of Barry Windsor Smith s landmark Wolverine Weapon X storyline.
The 192 page volume, measuring nine by twelve inches, presents the entire 1991 Weapon X arc in stark black and white, allowing readers to appreciate every line and texture of Windsor Smiths iconic artwork. The story originally ran as a twelve part serial in Marvel Comics Presents issues seventy two through eighty four and is widely regarded as one of the most influential and terrifying origin tales in Wolverine history.
In this edition the narrative is reproduced in its original form, but the absence of colour highlights the brutal line work and the horror ambience that Windsor Smith crafted to depict the secret Canadian Weapon X programme and its transformation of Logan into an adamantium bonded killing machine. The volume also includes supplementary material that expands the collection beyond the core storyline.
Archival scans of original artwork from the Marvel archives sit alongside new essays by comics historians Chris Ryall and John Lind, providing context and analysis of Windsor Smiths impact on the medium.
