“We’ll see tomorrow,” Cavs coach J.B. Bickerstaff said when asked about Garland’s chances of playing.
“I only see him on film, I try to ignore him during the games, but, again, it’s his spirit,” Bickerstaff said of Garland’s bench theatrics. “The guys love it, he loves his teammates, he’s entertaining. My kids talk about it all the time, so they enjoy it.”
Last week, Bickerstaff spoke about the possibility of Garland wearing protective goggles. Garland has been testing them during workouts. But sources say he was not a fan of the feel, believing they were impacting his peripheral vision. Garland was not wearing them Tuesday afternoon in either session. It’s highly unlikely he wears them upon his return.
While Garland has been conducting individual on-court workouts and doing various activities with the team, Tuesday was the biggest step yet in his recovery, making it appear as if a return is imminent. “He’s watching with an eye on what’s happening and why it’s happening, so when he does come back he understands and he’s participating even though he’s not out on the floor,” Bickerstaff said.
