Even though it’s only January, the Cavs couldn’t afford to squander another opportunity against an overmatched opponent.The game was tight for the first six minutes. There were three lead changes and four ties.
Mitchell missed his fourth game in the last five because of a strained left groin that he re-aggravated on the final possession of Tuesday’s matchup against New York. Even though he couldn’t play, Mitchell watched the All-Star reveal on a phone set up in Toyota Center visitor’s locker room about 45 minutes before tipoff. As his name was announced -- the fourth time in his career being selected an All-Star and first as a starter -- teammates erupted with joy.
Evan Mobley, bypassed by the Rockets in favor of Jalen Green in the 2021 NBA Draft, gave Houston a glimpse of what it could’ve had. The 21-year-old forward had 21 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, two blocks and one steal. Mobley started the game making four straight shots and playing with a level of aggression that he doesn’t always show.
