Aside from Arab, Daphne Police said they’re also communicating with investigators in Opelika, AL and Tennessee where other similar thefts have occurred. The FBI has also been notified in each case because it’s believed the vehicles may have been taken across state lines to be sold.
) - One month after a Daphne car dealership had several vehicles stolen, the same thing has happened in the northern part of the state. More than a million dollars-worth of cars were stolen from a dealership in Arab over the weekend.
Police say the ring of car thieves is organized and precise when they strike and believe the same group to be responsible for several car dealer thefts in recent months“They’re going after the high end-type vehicles and most likely they’re doing research prior,” said Lt. Jason Lazzari with Daphne Police. “Research on the dealership, research on what kind of vehicles they have so they kind of have an idea of what they want when they go in there.
“We believe that the offenders entered the business after the camera system went down. They broke a window in the bay area and entered the business,” said Arab Police Chief, Shane Washburn. “They then also broke into the key lockbox and stole three hundred keys from that box and also stole some dealer tags.”
