According to The Hollywood Reporter, Danny McBride, known for his work on The Righteous Gemstones, has been confirmed as the writer and director of the upcoming project.
This marks McBride's feature film directorial debut, although he has previously directed episodes of Vice Principals and The Righteous Gemstones and written several films, including The Foot Fist Way, Your Highness, and David Gordon Green's Halloween trilogy. The film has been in development for some time, with McBride and Max Landis both working on competing takes. Ultimately, McBride's vision won out.
