A Perth man with a history of family violence is jailed for 15 years for a 'prolonged' and 'brutal' attack on his partner that only stopped when she pretended to be unconscious.

An "entitled" and "controlling" Perth man with a history of family violence has been jailed for 15 years for a "prolonged" and "brutal" attack on his partner that only stopped when she pretended to be unconscious.Daniel William Huish, 33, was convicted of a string of offences including attempting to murder the woman, who was aged in her 20s, at his apartment in the inner Perth suburb of Burswood in November 2021.
At one point, the victim managed to run on to the balcony and screamed for help from people waiting at a nearby train station, but Huish dragged her back into the apartment by the hair. He was eventually arrested and while he pleaded guilty to obstructing and assaulting the police officers, and detaining and assaulting the victim, he denied the attempted murder charge.After a trial earlier this year, which included evidence of Huish's violence from another of his former partners, a jury found him guilty of the charge, as well as four counts of choking the woman.
He described the attack as a "brutal and harrowing experience" for the victim, saying the choking of her was particularly serious "That day my life was altered by a brutal attempt on my life," she said in a victim impact statement.
