A doting father and husband has been identified as one of the drivers killed in a fiery crash that claimed the lives of three people in Queensland. Daniel Stuart kissed his wife Betty Stuart goodbye on Friday when he left for work, but he never made it home. The grandfather was driving a truck carrying lithium batteries from Sydney to Rockhampton when an SUV pulled onto the Bruce Hwy and into the path of an oncoming truck loaded with watermelons.
There are concerns the truck drivers will need to be formally identified via DNA testing and could get caught up in a forensic backlog, meaning a weeks-long wait before their bodies are returned to their loved ones. Stuart’s family has made an emotional plea to accelerate the process so they can grieve. The New Zealand family said it was culturally important for them to bring loved ones home to say goodbye.
