Former Victorian premier Steve Bracks says he understands Daniel Andrews’ decision to resign, saying he made the right call to step down as the state’s leader.“I thought into the third term that he would probably take the next step and move on. He has been one of the longest serving Labor premiers in Victoria’s history, the second-longest serving ever or the third-longest.
“He is right when he says once you start thinking about life after politics it’s the time you have to go.” Bracks says the Commonwealth Games cancellation was unlikely to have been a factor in Andrews’ decision to resign. “Wherever you go, there is always decisions you make just before you go. I do not think that was a telling factor on the premier’s departure.”“He had that great mix of strong, effective leadership and bringing about actually transformational infrastructure projects, a big build, and with social reforms as well.”
