Local business owners tell us the city did install a crosswalk a few years ago, but they say most drivers don't slow down or stop for it."It's got the most people coming by, most biking coming by, it just needs to be fixed before someone gets killed," Berrier said.City leaders have talked for years about making this area safer, and they set aside millions of dollars for the job.
The city's goals are to make the area more friendly for cyclists, install traffic signals, and upgrade railroad crossings.Originally, construction was supposed to start this year in April, and TxDOT was going to hand the road over to the city when it was done. But now, TxDOT wants to keep the road, so the whole project has to be changed to meet state rules.
The city had to go back to the beginning of the process, creating plans, getting approval, and creating construction documents. But confirming the extra money is still a work in progress, and the community remains concerned in the meantime.What can be done in the meantime?
