The dangerous men every woman in Yorkshire needs to know about
According to the Crime Survey for England and Wales, it is estimated that some 2.4 million adults experienced domestic abuse in the year ending March 2022. This equates to 1.7 million women, and 699,000 men.
In Yorkshire, like the rest of the UK, women continue to suffer at the hands of men that are supposed to love them. Many are seriously assaulted, others are murdered in cold blood.Zeeshan Mobin Zeeshan Mobin, of Bradford, was jailed for 18 months after launching a degrading attack on his wife, after a row erupted at a dinner party. Mobin had become angry at his wife after realising that there were no drinks to mix with alcohol, telling her she was a "s****y wife".
The woman managed to flee and ask a group of people outside for help. But, in a terrifying turn, Rekowski approached the woman and stabbed her three times in the back, shoulder and arm. Thomas Nutt Thomas Nutt brutally murdered his new wife, Dawn Walker, on the couple's wedding night, after years of callously abusing her. The brutal killer then dumped Dawn's body in a suitcase and disposed of the case not far from the couple's home, in Brighouse.
Ben Paul McMichael Ben Paul McMichael, from Barnsley, was jailed for three years after a "prolonged campaign" of abuse against his girlfriend. McMichael physically and mentally abused his partner, leaving her feeling as though she had no way out. After launching a brutal attack on the woman, in which he strangled her and stamped on her, Wood then held her captive for two weeks - refusing to let her out of the house, so that no one would see her injuries. Wood was jailed for three years and eight months, as well as already serving a seven year sentence for discharging a firearm.
Steven Craig Steven Craig was found guilty of murder, decades after setting a woman on fire in a horrifying attack that had been inspired by Quentin Tarantino film, Reservoir Dogs. Craig, from York, inflicted horrendous injuries to Jacqueline Kirk in a car park in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, in April 1998.
Tony Brooks Tony Brooks, from Wakefield, was sentenced to life in prison for the killing of Kirstie Ellis, whom he had been in a relationship with for around two months. Kirstie's body was not found at her home in Stanhall Mews, Stanningley, for more than seven weeks after her murder when Brooks told police there was a body there on March 25.
Christopher Evans Evil Christopher Evans was jailed for 16 years, after subjecting a woman and a three-month-old baby to horrific abuse. Evans, from Huddersfield, raped the woman, assaulted her and pulled her hair to the extent her scalp was too sore to brush.
