Assaults, deaths and sexual offences have all taken place on public transport
From the early morning commute to the late bus or train home from a night out, thousands of people cross Lancashire using public transport every day. Passenger safety is an important issue for the bus and train operators and when that is put at risk it can result in serious sentences.
Bright, of Euston Grove, boarded a Northern service at Blackpool North station on April 5 and became verbally abusive when approached to present her ticket. She then began a tirade of racial abuse towards a fellow passenger before directing her abuse towards a young woman sitting opposite her, threatening to slit her face.
Staff refused entry and after a brief argument, Lucas left the station only to return later the same evening again wishing to travel without a ticket. CCTV footage showed the moment Lucas forced himself through the ticket barriers and grabbed a member of rail staff by the throat. On Saturday March 13 2021, the train driver from Liverpool was driving a Merseyrail Service from Liverpool Central to Kirkby, which was due to arrive at 6.52pm. The Network Rail speed limit for the approach to Kirkby station is 15mph, but the train travelled in at 40mph.
The 17-year-old tried to intimidate the woman by making threats of sexual violence. He has now been convicted of threatening behaviour.
