Today's Alaska weather forecast from Alaska's Weather Source.

ANCHORAGE , AK - Back-to-back winter storms over the last two weeks has been replaced with bitter cold weather. A trough of colder air is in place across Alaska , with many areas seeing temperatures well below average for late February.

Southcentral is seeing highs nearly 25 degrees below average, while the Interior is seeing highs roughly 30 degrees below average. This bitter cold weather will stay with us to close out February.Temperatures across Southcentral bottomed out near -20 through parts of the Kenai, with many areas of Southcentral holding onto wind chills remaining below zero. While things will remain fairly dry across Southcentral for the foreseeable future, snowfall amounts in Southcentral are sitting pretty healthy for the region. Little in the way of warmth is expected over the next week, with winds still expected to remain for the coastal areas of Southcentral. Winds will still gust upwards of 45–55 mph in coastal areas. Inland locations will hold onto some breezy winds for the first half of the day. We’ll want to watch locations near Palmer/Wasilla and through the northern parts of the Susitna Valley, where winds could still gust up to 40 mph. This will keep wind chills well below zero for the time being. Expect the coldest mornings to remain with us into the first part of the weekend, with temperatures slowly warming into the 10s next week.Temperatures in the panhandle have dropped about 10–25 degrees since Wednesday morning. This has led to any rain transitioning to snow, with a few more inches of snow accumulation possible. Most areas will see an additional 2–5 inches of snow accumulation, with the far southern reaches of the panhandle seeing some localized areas of wintry mix. While we can’t rule out some breezy winds for the Southeast, winds shouldn’t gust more than 40 mph. Friday is shaping up to be fairly dry for the panhandle, outside of the Southern Inner Channels, which may see some lingering snow. Enjoy the drier weather and sunshine breaks, as they will be short-lived. Friday will most likely be the coldest day, with highs only in the 10s and 20s. By Saturday, a warmer push of air will drive highs back near freezing, with snow and rain moving back into the panhandle. No shortage of biting cold air through the Interior, as some of the coldest spots woke up to lows colder than -40 this morning. While we can’t rule out some breezy winds for the Interior, those winds will largely stay confined through the Eastern Alaska Range, where a blizzard warning remains in effect. Expect an overall dry and cold weather pattern for the Interior, with daily highs staying anywhere from -10 to -20. Thursday morning through Saturday morning will be the coldest mornings, as temperatures drop down near -40 or colder. While temperatures slowly moderate next week, we’ll likely hold onto subzero values through the first week of March. Current temperatures in the Interior are about 30 degrees below average.Bitter cold air remains for areas of the North Slope, with fairly quiet winds today. While things do remain dry for the Slope, snow will increase into Friday. We’ll see light snow accumulation, with winds set to increase. This will lead to areas of blowing snow and reduced visibility. We’ll keep at least some light snow showers around through early next week. Cold, dry and sunny weather will remain in Western Alaska. Following a series of storms this month, February will close on a quieter and colder note. We’ll likely remain dry across Western Alaska for the next week to week and a half. Expect an overall cold weather pattern to remain, although highs slowly warm into the single digits through next week.Ongoing areas of rain and snow remain with the Aleutians, as our ridge of high pressure has shifted well south into the Pacific Ocean. While areas of the Central and Eastern Aleutians are seeing some colder conditions, warmer weather remains with areas along and west of Adak. While not an overly active weather pattern, we’ll keep with at least some daily rain, snow and winds for the Aleutians.Turnagain Pass: Moderate danger remains with the pass. It’s recommended to stick to simple terrain and avoid terrain traps. Summit Lake: Moderate danger remains with the pass. It’s recommended to stick to simple terrain and avoid terrain traps. Seward and Lost Lake: Moderate danger remains with the pass. It’s recommended to stick to simple terrain and avoid terrain traps. Valdez: Moderate avalanche danger at all elevations. Natural avalanches are unlikely, with human-triggered avalanches possible within the hard wind slabs.Little change in the overall forecast, as the bitter cold weather remains in the state. For many areas, as February draws to a close, this will be one of the coldest winters in recent memory. For areas of the Interior, it will be one of the coldest winters since the 70s.24/7 Alaska Weather: Get access to live radar, satellite, weather cameras, current conditions, and the latest weather forecast here.
