Dangerous cold has a grip on the Tri-State area as another potential weekend winter storm is brewing
New York City and the Tri-State area are still digging out from the weekend storm, but the deep freeze is far from over, and there's a chance of more snow this weekend. With temperatures stuck below freezing for at least six days, nothing is melting on its own, and anything that does thaw during the day will refreeze overnight.
Everything should be considered potentially icy, from sidewalks to roads, even when surfaces look merely wet. Residents are urged to limit time outdoors, check on pets, and make sure kids take frequent breaks to warm up. This isn't a typical post-snow cold. It's a stretch of dangerous, prolonged winter air that will grip the region for most of the week.Forecast models are split - the European model keeps the system closer to the coast, which would bring more snow, ice, big waves and possible beach erosion. The American model pushes it farther out into the Atlantic, sparing the region the worst.Alternate Side Parking suspended for rest of week in NYC The Mamdani administration announced Tuesday that Alternate Side Parking Regulations will be suspended through Sunday to facilitate snow operations.NYC Ferry has suspended service across all routes for the rest of the day and likely for several days. Operating in heavy ice conditions requires slow speeds and little to no notice regarding landing service suspensions, NYC Ferry said.says it will provide ongoing updates regarding the resumption of service as soon as it is safely possible to do so.Advocates offer assistance to those in need in NYC With temperatures dropping and the wind expected to pick up, advocates for the homeless are working to make sure those who need help get it.
