We spoke to the incredible DanaiGurira about Okoye's emotional arc in BlackPantherWakandaForever, and how her relationship with Shuri and Ramonda evolves in the new MCU film:
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is less than a week away and will continue the story of Wakanda after a major loss. The movie centers around the death of T’Challa , and how it has impacted the world as well as the characters. Wakanda has been left without its leader and protector, and the other characters are not only mourning but taking over as leaders and protectors of their home.
Danai Gurira: Yeah, it was all about honoring him and that was really the anchoring aspect of everything. We were honoring him, and [what was] anchoring us in the previous film was his presence; him being there and the leadership that he manifested. Really, [it was] the way that he brought such a particular spirit to the set and to our energy.
That's amazing. Now, Okoye suffered a lot of loss. Her king, her love. Where do we find her in this film? Speaking of the royal family, can you talk to me about how we see Okoye's relationship explored with Shuri and Queen Ramonda?
