Ever since UFC 300, fighters and MMA media started a trend during pre-event press conferences. Someone would be bold enough to suggest to UFC CEO Dana White that the bonuses should be heightened above the standard $50,000 amount to match a numeric theme or escalate alongside a financially successful show.
White called out the fighters on the card for making too many decisions over finishes. “Seven straight f## decisions” were his exact words during the epic rant, which clearly shows White and the UFC highly prioritize fighters who get finishes over guys and girls who consistently fight to win on points.
The entire mid-level prelim card ended in decisions, but only one of those fights was dull. Muhammad Mokaev and Manel Kape’s supposed blood feud did not play out in the Octagon as many expected. While White’s rant was entertaining, and many fans would love to see more action in fights, as a pure MMA fan for more than 30 years, I can appreciate an event like UFC 304.
