Commanders owner Daniel Snyder has fired back at a report that he hired private investigators through his law firms to dig up dirt on fellow owners and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.

“That is patently false and intended to erode the trust and goodwill between owners that I take quite seriously,” Snyder said in a statement of the story saying Snyder instructed his law firms to hire private investigators to look into other owners. “I have never hired any private investigator to look into any owner or the commissioner. I have never instructed or authorized my lawyers to hire and private investigator on my behalf for any such purpose. And I never would.

Snyder’s team in particular has been involved in a number of lurid controversies in recent months and years. In July, Washington was fined $10 million as a result of the NFL’s investigation into the team’s workplace culture, which included discrimination, bullying, sexual harassment and demeaning language. There is also a second investigation that is ongoing with similar claims, Snyder also hurt the Commanders’ attempt to get a new stadium in Virginia with the deal close to being done before former female employees testified in front of Congress about the organization’s culture.

Said Snyder: “Falsehoods and lies being spread about any of out organizations hurts our league, our players and our fans, and we simply cannot let them go unchallenged.”
