A new report hints that Damon Lindelof's StarWars movie will take place after TheRiseOfSkywalker and could feature some returning characters. 👀
Shortly after it was announced that Damon Lindelof was writing a new Star Wars movie new details about the project have been released. Following the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in December 2019, Lucasfilm has struggled to get a new Star Wars movie off the ground. While Patty Jenkins' Rogue Squadron was set for release in December 2023, the film was taken off the release schedule due to creative differences.
It was recently confirmed that Lost creator Damon Lindelof was working on a new Star Wars film for Lucasfilm. Lindelof and Lucasfilm brought on Ms. Marvel director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy to help usher the project in. No details were revealed regarding the film, but many assumed Disney and Lucasfilm were aiming to have the movie ready for release in December 2025 as they have already set a date aside for a Star Wars movie.
What Happens After The Rise of Skywalker The news that Lucasfilm would be making a Star Wars movie after the sequel trilogy is certainly an interesting development. For the most part, the franchise has been exploring the era between the prequels and the original trilogy with projects like Andor, or in the five years after Return of the Jedi, as with The Mandalorian.
A story set after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is certainly bound to raise some questions about which characters will return if any. Actors like Oscar Isaac and John Boyega have hinted they are done with Star Wars for the near future, but there are still plenty of other characters who could appear. The story could feature Rey and her attempts to rebuild the Jedi Order or a larger role for Rose Tico, whom many felt was unfairly sidelined in the last film.
