Abbott and his supporters are pushing to have a voucher system, also known as school choice. I worked for three principals as a public school teacher, and though their leadership styles were different, they all practiced under one unifying tenet: Make decisions based on what’s best for kids.

Based on my review of the lessons, no other religion receives the same emphasis in the curriculum. I am a Christian who believes in the separation of church and state. My classes the past 11 years were rarely majority Christian. I taught children from agnostic, atheist, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu and Christian families. Teaching about the prophecies of the Bible is not what is best for all kids..

Our state Rep. Jared Patterson weighed in with a Facebook post, saying he was “proud to see FISD support school choice, giving parents options to let their tax dollars follow the child.”
