Leading a fashion revolution, Dame Mary Quant came to be front and centre of a movement which empowered a new generation of young working women with money to spend to express themselves through what they wore.But although her fun - often timeless - designs have remained popular with fashion's movers and shakers, in the decades since her name became synonymous with the sixties her business prowess stands out just as much.
A day's takings would pay to make the next day's fresh designs. The turnaround was quick, feeding into an insatiable appetite Quant had created for the latest trends.By 1975 she'd expanded into make-up, home wear, even dolls - presiding over a global empire - and her daisy logo instantly recognisable.
Jenny Lister, the curator of the Dame Mary Quant exhibition at the V&A, said the fashion designer"blasted through barriers of snobbery and tradition" and will"always represent the joyful freedom of fashion in the 1960s".
