The South African Weather Service has issued severe weather alerts for tomorrow, 17 September, warning of damaging waves expected to hit several coastlines.

has issued severe weather alerts for tomorrow, 17 September, warning of damaging waves expected to hit several coastlines.An Orange level five warning for damaging waves, which could result in difficulty in navigation, damage to coastal infrastructure, beach erosion and possible rogue waves along the coast of Plettenberg Bay and Port Edward.

A Yellow level four warning for damaging waves resulting in localised disruption of small harbours and ports for a short period of time is expected between Alexander Bay and Plettenberg Bay. A Yellow level two warning for damaging waves which could negatively impact navigation at sea is expected between Port Edward and Richards Bay.

Furthermore, weather across the Western Cape is forecast to be cloudy and cool to cold, which could later become fine by the afternoon across the northern and southern parts. Wind speeds will be light to moderate south to south-easterly, albeit strong north-westerly along the south coast, which will become moderate to fresh west to south-west from late morning.

Towards the end of the period, winds will moderate to light westerly to south-westerly along the south coast.
