The proposed Houston-to-Dallas high-speed rail route has landed a near $64 million in federal funding.

FILE - An Amtrak logo is displayed on a train at 30th Street Station on Feb. 6, 2014, in Philadelphia. Amtrak service between New York and Boston has been suspended for the rest of the day, the rail service announced Saturday, July 6, 2024. Amtrak was awarded nearly $64 million in federal funding for a Dallas to Houston high-speed rail line, a highly sought-after state development..

There’s still a long way to go and billions are needed to get the project off the ground, but rail leaders are encouraged.“From a federal perspective, we cannot overlook how big of a state that Texas obviously is and how much growth is happening here, especially in the Dallas and Houston metropolitan areas,” said Amit Bose, Federal Railroad Administration administrator at a rail conference in April.
