A team of officers is analyzing every pending Dallas murder and capital murder case to trace whether video evidence existed that wasn’t provided to attorneys....
The city’s top police watchdog raised alarms about the lost videos, saying they cast a shadow over criminal justice in the city.
Dallas County District Attorney John Creuzot said last week that police found at least 13 homicide cases so far with deleted evidence. Police also found evidence that hadn’t been turned over to prosecutors in two other homicide cases, he added. Five homicide cases had complete evidence, he said. But those only account for 20 of about 450 cases in the review.
While the public awaits more details from the review, Dallas’ police oversight monitor raised alarms about the issues, saying they cast doubt on the criminal justice apparatus in the city.
