The city of Dallas has opened a temporary shelter at Fair Park's Grand Place to provide meals and lodging for residents facing an upcoming winter weather event. The shelter, which can accommodate over 900 people, is operated in partnership with the Austin Street Center and OurCalling. It will remain open until overnight temperatures rise above freezing.

In accordance with Dallas City Code Chapter 45, a Temporary Inclement Weather Shelter will be opened to keep residents safe during an upcoming winter weather projection by the National Weather Service.
“Too often, we talk about homelessness what isn’t working, what we think should happen differently, or what we need to change,” said Daniel Roby, CEO of Austin Street Center. “This is a great example of what is working in Dallas — a unified commitment to realizing that no one should be unsheltered ... everyone should have the right to at least live until tomorrow.”
