Dallas officials found 19 non-compliant construction permits in a preliminary review

The city of Dallas has stopped construction on more than a dozen homes in the Elm Thicket-Northpark neighborhood because city inspectors approved permits using old zoning information, and city officials are trying to figure out how it happened.

Some homes on Linwood Avenue and Roper Street had the wrong type of roofing. Another home on Victoria Avenue was a duplex, which the new zoning didn’t allow on that lot.Danny Le, who is with F80 Capital LLC that is building the duplex, said he learned about the zoning issues after visiting the site, which had a red ”stop work” order posted. He began construction in May.Le said his designs, which exceed the maximum lot coverage, were based on zoning requirements provided by the permitting office.

Staff worked with the neighborhood group to review 29 sites. Ten were without violations, five had non-compliant plans but had not yet begun construction. The remainder were in various stages of construction with violations, the memo said.
