Dallas police reported responding to 1,057 potential fireworks calls this year compared to 1,410 last year.

This year, DFR paramedics responded to seven injury calls on July 4 that were caused by fireworks, a Dallas Fire Rescue statement said. The department did not immediately have injury numbers for last year.Possession and use of fireworks in Dallas is illegal. This year, DFR and DPD confiscated about 1,309 pounds of fireworks and issued five citations. Over half of this amount was from a box truck selling fireworks in southwest Dallas. Last year, 938 pounds of fireworks were confiscated.

The four structure fires occurred in the 5900 block of Overlook Drive, the 8700 block of Woodbrook Drive, the 2400 block of Southwell Road and the 10500 block of Lake June Road.“All of a sudden, I heard popping at the window. And I thought it was hailing, raining, hailing so fireworks would stop,” she told the television station. “I went back to what I was doing. It got louder and harder. Thought the window would break out.
