File photo.A 21-year-old Dallas man has been arrested in connection with the slayings of a father and daughter in Pleasant Grove last year.

Shon Manuel Irving was arrested Dec. 22 and faces a capital murder charge in the deaths of 49-year-old Raul Resendiz and 30-year-old Diana Resendiz. It was unclear Wednesday whether he had an attorney., to the 2800 block of Kirven Drive, where Raul Resendiz had been shot. Dallas Fire-Rescue took him to a hospital, where he died. The men fled and Diana Resendiz, Raul Resendiz’s daughter, followed them in her own vehicle.

Police released surveillance video asking for the public’s help identifying the vehicle the assailants left in. According to an arrest-warrant affidavit, a detective was contacted in January by two people who claimed to know the vehicle’s owner. Around the same time, two witnesses told police that Irving — the cousin of the vehicle’s owner — shot Raul Resendiz because he caught Irving breaking into a car, and then shot Diana Resendiz because she would have been able to identify him, according to the affidavit.Police did not say whether the car’s owner was considered a suspect in the case.

Court records show that Irving previously pleaded guilty to criminal trespass after police said he broke into a home in 2017. He was given probation but later sentenced to 201 days in jail after violating the terms of his probation.Irving remained in the Dallas County jail Wednesday, with bail set at $1 million. He would face the death sentence or life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted of capital murder..
