Ahead of the full fest this fall, a handful of movies screen Friday to Sunday at Alamo Drafthouse in the Cedars.
Cooper Raiff and Dakota Johnson appear in "Cha Cha Real Smooth," the second feature written and directed by Raiff, a Dallas native and rising indie filmmaker.The Dallas International Film Festival doesn’t take place until the fall, but it’s giving an early peek at what’s to come.
From Friday to May 1, the fest will screen a combination of premieres and favorites at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Cedars in what it’s calling Spring Preview Weekend.Cha Cha Real Smooth . Raiff won an audience award for the movie, his second feature, at the festival in January, and it’s due out on Apple TV+ in June., the grand jury prize winner at the last year’s Venice Film Festival;, the story of deputy U.S. marshal Bass Reeves teaming up with an unlikely duo to hunt down outlaws in the Texas town; and, about an Asian-American family’s struggle to keep their restaurant and economic fortunes afloat in rural America amid the pandemic and political upheaval.
