A Dallas-area influencer’s pet monkey was malnourished and underweight when he was confiscated by police, say authorities.
The monkey, named Jorgie Boy, was diagnosed with Rickets, a bone disease caused by inadequate nutrition and a lack of Vitamin D, Irving police spokeswoman Delaney Brey toldThe monkey’s owner, Brandi Botello, could regain custody if she is willing to work with the sanctuary on proper care, Brey said. However, she will have to move out of Irving, which does not allow people to keep monkeys as pets.
Botello said she was taken to the hospital after the crash for a blood draw and police told her she faces arrest for DWI, although she disputes she was the one driving. Jorgie Boy was asleep on her and not injured in the accident, she said. The monkey was transferred to Irving before moving to the sanctuary.A friend gave Botello the monkey when he was just 2 months old, and the two quickly bonded, frequently shopping and watching Dallas Cowboys games.
“He’s probably stressed out,” she said. “When he’s not with me, he doesn’t want to eat, doesn’t want to drink. He just hides under a blanket and cries.”Sarah Bahari is a trending news reporter.
