Paul-Henri Nargeolet, director of underwater research for RMS Titanic, Inc., and creator of two Titanic documentaries, was one of the five who perished aboard the Titan. Vescovo toldthat he first got to know Nargeolet because he was a technical adviser for Vescovo during the construction of the Limiting Factor. Afterward, Nargeolet took part in Vescovo’s Five Deeps Expedition as a safety officer.
Vescovo and Hamish Harding also share a bond as the only two people to go to the bottom of the ocean and into space together. Vescovo took Harding to Challenger Deep in 2021, where they set a record for most time spent there. In 2022, Harding, a British businessman,for the space exploration company’s fifth crewed mission.
OceanGate CEO and founder Stockton Rush and Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his 19-year-old son, Suleman, were the others who died in the Titan’s implosion. That research, he said, is crucial for understanding things like climate change and a world where water seriously outnumbers land.
