About 4,000 babies born at Parkland Health could get nurse home visits as early as next spring as part of a newly-approved program through the City of Dallas...
The program would allot up to three nurse home visits to Dallas families in the weeks after the birth of their newborn at Parkland5:43 AM on Nov 10, 2022 CST
The Dallas City Council approved the program on Wednesday, while Dallas County Commissioners approved the measure in October. Parkland will use the Family Connects program to implement the universal newborn nurse home visiting platform. The model specifically targets three outcomes: Reduction of potential child abuse and neglect, reduction of infant and toddler emergency care use and reduction of anxiety and depression in parents.
Family Connects is already in use in North Texas through partnerships with local community organizations and health care providers, including My Health My Resources of Tarrant County, United Way Metropolitan Dallas, Metrocare, TexProtects and some Texas Health and Medical City locations. Galleshaw said that, because Parkland is a public health system, it allows the city and county to use COVID-19 relief money to fund the program.
The universal newborn nurse home visit program would differ from other maternal and newborn health programs in that it focuses on the first months of a baby’s life. It is also available to families regardless of socioeconomic status.
