Dallas County reported 62 more COVID-19 deaths and 6,383 new coronavirus cases in the past week, about 2,800 fewer cases than what was reported in the last seven-day period.

“Although the numbers are much lower than they have been last month, they are still high in comparison to pre-Omicron numbers,” County Judge Clay Jenkins said in a written statement. “Hopefully the numbers will continue to decline rapidly, but for now it’s important to continue being vigilant about masking in indoor public settings outside your own home, maintaining six foot distance and washing your hands frequently.

The average number of new daily cases in the county for the last two weeks is 1,117. For the previous 14-day period, the average was 3,921.According to the state, 1,792,928 people in Dallas County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 1,533,500 — 62.3% of the county’s population 5 and older — are fully vaccinated.The state of Texas reported 80,402 more coronavirus cases in the last week — a 40% drop from the previous seven-day period.
