‘Pastures of the Empty Page’ features essays from 38 writers on the late Texas author.
Larry McMurtry described himself as a “minor regional novelist,” but as most of us know, he was so much more. As I wrote in his obituary, he was a “Pulitzer Prize-winning author and Oscar-winning screenwriter, whose novels about small-town life and the cowboy era of the American West chiseled him into the folklore of his native Texas.”
He lived to be 84, but as George Getschow, editor of a new book about McMurtry, writes in the acknowledgments of, “When Larry died, on March 25, 2021, a piece of us died too. But there was no funeral. No memorial service. No opportunity to commemorate and celebrate the epic life of Texas’ literary titan.”In "Pastures of the Empty Page," 38 essayists explore the life and career of Texas author Larry McMurtry.
