“Dallas, this beer pairs well with our despair and confusion,” the pairing notes read for the brew from Celestial Beerworks.A Dallas craft brewery is launching a new brew with a subtle nod to theCelestial Beerworks, known for its experimental beers and creative designs, will soon drop a new double hazy IPA called Sell the Team, which comes in a blue can emblazoned with deflated basketballs and torn sports pennants.

The Sell the Team IPA from Celestial Beerworks is a not-so-subtle nod to the Dallas Mavericks trading Luka Doncic to the Lakers“We feel very much a part of it because we’re such a pre-game stop for people in Dallas,” said Reynolds, who opened the brewery with her husband in Dallas' Medical District in 2018.

A Celestial Beerworks employee, who’s also an avid Mavs fan, suggested Sell the Team as a name for one of the brewery’s upcoming beer launches. Reynolds, who designs all the cans for the brewery, took the idea and ran with it.There’s no call out to the basketball team or Doncic himself in the design Reynolds came up with, but it doesn’t take much reading between the lines to know exactly what the IPA is referencing. The beer’s 7.7% ABV and the pairing notes are a giveaway.

Sell the Team is made with Citra hops from the U.S. along with Motueka and Nelson Sauvin hops from New Zealand. Reynolds describes it as “very approachable” in taste. Unlike classic IPAs which can lean bitter and piney, this double hazy IPA is fruity and juicy with hints of orange juice and mango — fitting for a drink meant to soothe already bitter hearts. The beer will be available in the brewery’s taproom Feb. 21 and will be distributed to local retailers the week after. Celestial Beerworks can be found at Central Market, Whole Foods and H-E-B stores in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
