Dallas Animal Services extends $150 incentive to fosters, halfway to ‘clean break’

With more than 188 exposed dogs in need of fostering, DAS is now halfway to achieving a clean slate, director MeLissa Webber said in a news release.

“We try to keep those populations totally separate so that we’re not just creating a cycle of constant reinfection,” she said. “And thankfully, we haven’t seen too much cross-contamination.” A $150 Amazon gift card will be given to the first 80 fosters or rescue partners, courtesy of the shelter’s fundraising nonprofit, Friends of DAS. The shelter also pledges to provide all fosters with training, supplies and free veterinary care.

As of Friday morning, the shelter was housing around 440 dogs, including 408 medium or large dogs. Many dogs staying at the facility are not sick or have recovered from illness since being placed.
