Officials hope a new entertainment district will connect north and south Dallas, bringing jobs, housing and more.
Mayor Pro Tem Tennell Atkins, who represents District 8 in southern Dallas, said the expansion will bring economic growth with the potential to combat what he described as “the tale of two cities.”Expansion plans include a partial demolition of the convention center, which will reintegrate the Cedars neighborhood of South Dallas to downtown by opening up a direct path for travel rather than a tunnel underneath the convention center.
Renovations to the convention center are expected to finish by 2029, with the intention of events happening at the center later that year.
